My family started working in the liquor business, and I wanted to follow in their footsteps. Why did you choose this business? I enjoy people in New Mexico. Working in this business allows me to meet so many new people and talk to them about our business. I love the community. I also enjoy managing a very diverse group of people that evolve and change every day. What is your business philosophy? I use the 3 M's ... Mass, Margin and Momentum. I follow these three crucial elements to business in everything that I do. What is your educational background? I have a Masters Degree in business and a BA in Math. What is your or your company's greatest asset? Our employees and our loyal customers Why did you choose to do business in Albuquerque? My family came to New Mexico when I was in high school. I really enjoyed the people I met here. They were warm, welcoming, and for just that reason I couldn't think of calling another place home. How is operating your own business different than you expected? We work very hard in this business. Our days are about 12 to 14 hours, seven days a week. It is very tiring but very rewarding. With the economy and uncertainty of the world today, if you’re not engaged daily, you could lose everything in a instant, and so would all of our valued employees. What significant changes have you implemented recently? Recently we’ve purchased the Quarters BBQ restaurant on Wyoming and Montgomery. The employees and customers are awesome, but running a restaurant has lots of obstacles and challenges. It has been fun and exciting. We are learning and growing each and every day. What successes in the past year are you most proud of accomplishing? My first daughter was born last year. Life could not bring me something more rewarding and fulfilling. On the business side, the purchase of Quarters discount liquors and BBQ restaurant was a very large accomplishment for me. What do you offer that the competition doesn't? Our consumers money stays in New Mexico.We are not a national account. We have 40-plus doors of cold refreshing beer with over 2,500 different beers, 3,000 different spirits, and so many wines to choose from I can’t begin to mention them all. We value customer service and the local New Mexico consumers who would like to shop local and keep their money local. How do you maintain your competitive edge? Education! We train our employees constantly. What is your company's greatest challenge? Maintaining that competive edge and staying out in front What contributions to the community (charitable or otherwise) are you most proud of? We support all churches and schools in our area. We love helping our neighbors any way that we can. How has the Internet affected your business, and how do you think it might affect your business in the future? It has been challenging thus far, but we are excited to become fully intergrated and running in the next few weeks. We hope that it will allow us a better communication stream to our customers. We will also be launching a new mobile app. In what area of your business do you invest the most energy? Customer relations, supplier relations and employee relations What words of wisdom would you offer to someone starting their own business? Put your heart and soul into your employees and customers. Invest more into our childrens’ education and developement with better schools and more accountability. Invest in New Mexico, and our economy will grow and develop.
