Weekly Business Profile
Wasabi Japanese Cuisine
Type of business:
417 Tramway BLVD Suite 3
Albuquerque NM 87123
How did you get started in this business?
I came back from NYC to pursue my passion in the restaurant industry. Albuquerque is where I grew up and I wanted to put my hard work and dedication back into the city I know best.
What motivates you to succeed besides the desire to make money?
Success is not defined by how much money a person makes. My motivation comes from the compliments and kind words of our customers. Working at a restaurant many hours of out the day and then to receive kind words makes our entire staff feel like we've accomplished something. It reminds us of why we work so hard and put so much thought into our service and dishes.
What words of wisdom would you offer to someone starting their own business?
If you do not sincerely have passion for the business you want to start, do not start it at all. Being open minded to criticism is key to making each day better and resulting in a better business for both you and your customers.
What is your business concept?
We understand very well that times are tough, but it doesn't necessarily mean having to give up some of life's little pleasures, such as dining out once in awhile. In order to be able to offer our customers reasonably priced dishes, it meant we had to make tweaks to the restaurant. When the restaurant saves on spending, it gives us room to help our customers save as well. Wasabi Japanese Cuisine is counter service. Our menus have pictures of every dish, making it easier to decide which dishes looks most appetizing for our customers at the moment. Customers then order at the counter and receive a pager that will alert them when the order is ready to be picked up at the counter.
What unique dishes do you offer?
We put a lot of emphasis on taste in every dish. One of our most popular dishes is the bento box, which comes with a variety of items. It includes the main items such as shrimp tempura, teriyaki salmon, teriyaki chicken, stuff baked shrimp, vegetable tempura, and kobe beef. Each bento also includes chicken gyoza or tofu nuggets, spring mix green salad with miso dressing or seaweed salad, miso soup, white or brown rice, California rolls and a drink. For those who are more interested in rice bowls, we have donburi. Donburi is a rice bowl served with your choice of teriyaki chicken, sweet beef and onion gyu, omelette fried rice, or even our very popular pork belly slice. There's also a great selection of noodle dishes from stir fried yakiudon to delicious sukiyaki beef udon noodle soup. Gluten free noodle dishes are also available. Anyone looking for quick snacks would love our Quick Bites section which offers pork belly yakitori, our popular teriyaki chicken yakitori and spicy jalapeno heart breaker stuffed with cream cheese, crab sticks and spicy salmon. We also serve onigiri, which can be described as small rice sandwich with crispy seaweed. It's quite popular and hard to find in the Albuquerque metro area. Our entire menu is available online. Our dishes starts at $7.95 and includes miso soup and a drink. Average combo dishes are $8.95 - $11.95.
Why should new customers try out your place?
We all need variety in our lives. Wasabi Japanese Cuisine is a casual and comfortable atmosphere that serves cooked to order dishes. If customers prefer to take their meals home, take-out is available by visiting our location—order over the phone at (505) 200-2477 or on our website at www.WasabiJC.com. We try to make the experience as convenient as possible while also providing good service and great food.
Why should someone dine at Wasabi Japanese Cuisine instead of your competitors?
They shouldn't. Life isn't restricted. We all have choices and that's the great part. No one shouldn't have to stick to only one restaurant for the rest of their life. Once in a while come visit us and once in a while visit our competitors because at the end of the day, we all live in the same beautiful city and we need to support our local businesses. It's what keeps our city growing.
What are some quick facts you want to inform someone who is considering dining at Wasabi Japanese Cuisine?
Wasabi Japanese Cuisine is quick service dining, but does not lack in quality. Everything is cooked to order and yes that also includes our sushi. We offer gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan dishes. Our hours are Monday - Sunday from 10:30am - 9pm. We're open throughout the whole day. We offer exclusive discounts and promotions to those who like us on Facebook (Facebook.com/wasabijc).
