What motivates you to succeed besides the desire to make money?
My family and my clients are what motivate me. My family encourages me to be all that I can be and supports me every step of the way. My clients are always positive: They come in and leave happier than ever.
What successes in the past year are you most proud of accomplishing?
For being as young as I am, I’ve come very far in the beauty industry. I’ve taken on a lot more responsibility as salon manager of the commission stylists. I’ve grown a great deal both as a person and as a stylist, and I’m eager to learn even more.
What do you offer that the competition doesn't?
At D’Ambrosio Designs Hair Studio we make sure our clients leave satisfied and feeling like a million bucks. We take the time to achieve the perfect style for each individual who comes to our salon. We use top of the line products such as Redken and Bumble and Bumble to ensure that our guests leave both feeling awesome and able to recreate their styles at home.
What are your growth goals?
As of now I’m a commissioned stylist, but I will hopefully become a booth renter in the next couple of years. My clientele is growing rapidly. My goal is to continue satisfying my existing clients while taking on many more that come my way.
What inspires you?
My boss and co-workers are who inspire me the most. I have learned so much from them this past year, and I still have more to learn. They are my mentors, and are some of the most talented people I’ve ever encountered. We all mesh together well and that helps the business run smoothly. The salon owner, Marcus, has really enabled me to tap my potential and has shown me what I’m capable of.
What do you feel are your strengths in the beauty industry?
Since I graduated from cosmetology school, I’ve been taking continuing education classes to learn new and exciting techniques and to keep up with the newest trends and styles. I also learn from my boss and coworkers. They’ve been my mentors and they are definitely people whom I look up to.
What keeps your clients coming back?
I try to find out my clients’ likes and dislikes. I like to get a feel for their personalities, so I can provide them with a style that is both easy for them to maintain and suits them. It also helps that I’m a people person and love to interact with my clients. A bond between a client and a hairstylist can almost feel like family.
What do you enjoy most about Albuquerque?
I’m a New Mexico native, and this is my home. I completed my education in Arizona at the Carsten Aveda Institute. I loved living in a bigger city and met lots of great people, but this is where my heart belongs. My family and I are super close-knit, like most New Mexican families, so of course I got homesick. There is no place like New Mexico, and I love it, from the green chile to the Balloon Fiesta; it keeps us unique
How do you overcome obstacles with each client's needs?
The most important thing is to listen and keep an open mind. I express my professional opinion when needed, but I definitely do not force it upon anyone. I love it when people are creative and challenge my skills, but I also love my clients who come in every three weeks for a touch up. Every person is different, and every situation can be challenging. I try my best to make everyone happy or find solutions to help get them where they want to be. I am a realist, and I never over-promise what I cannot deliver.
What are some of your passions and hobbies outside of work?
I enjoy working out and traveling as much as possible. I feel that everyone needs to find an escape from work because when you’re happy, you project positive vibes. I love stress relievers and anything that involves an adrenaline rush. Life is too short to be too serious; you need fun to keep you motivated and driven. Exploring new things opens your heart and mind, and that is what gives you peace of mind.
