What is your business philosophy?
In the global economy, I still believe that one must support the local businesses first. Local small businesses are the backbone of our country. I try very hard to support our local retail community.
What is your educational background?
UNM School of Pharmacy
What is your or your company's greatest asset?
The people that work for me. My staff is fantastic!
What motivates you to succeed besides the desire to make money?
I chose Pharmacy as my profession because I have always wanted to help people be healthy. I want to be an ambassador of wellness.
How is operating your own business different than you expected?
It is a 24/7 job. Owning your own business is harder than anyone can imagine, but the rewards are greater than one can imagine. Helping people feel better is the greatest reward!
What significant changes have you implemented recently?
We have concentrated on bettering the customer's experience in our store. We have done lots of remodeling—new signage, a remodel of our compounding room, etc. We have also brought in many new products and services.
What do you offer that the competition doesn't?
Duran’s has always been known for its unique atmosphere. A person can drop off a prescription, shop for a special gift for someone, have lunch and then pick up the prescription without ever leaving the building.
You say you brought in some new products and services. Could you name a few?
We have done some extensive research and training in wellness and have brought in several great lines of supplements, homeopathic items and the Dr. Comfort shoe line. We also provide medication therapy management with several helpful tools to help patients manage their health. Delivery service and curbside service is also available. One of our newest programs is our Free Kids Vitamin program to promote health in our community. We offer free vitamins to all children under the age of 12. Our gift area is continuously updated with many great, new one-of-a-kind gift ideas. We have some of the best stocking stuffers around! Our restaurant has won several awards for their fabulous chile, and now we have entered the 21st century; we are now accepting credit cards at the restaurant.
