The city of Albuquerque is host to an enormous number of tattoo shops. Indeed, a new one seems to spring up out of nowhere every week. Most of these shops are indistinguishable from the next. You walk in and see row after row of predictable, uninspired tattoo designs lining the walls.

However, amid the same-old-same-old lies a gem by the name of Stay Gold Tattoo nestled in the heart of the college district. Stay Gold Tattoo has been Albuquerque’s leading custom tattoo shop for 12 years now. Every one of our artists is an accomplished tattooist in their own right, able to execute a variety of styles to perfection. Stay Gold Tattoo has only four working artists, placing the utmost in quality over quantity, and all at a very affordable and competitive rate. Indeed, with the many years of experience our artists have at their craft, you can expect the work to be fast, efficient and outstanding!

Yet another thing that sets Stay Gold Tattoo apart from the rest is that our shop also doubles as a fine art gallery. Each tattooist is also a dedicated artist outside of the world of tattooing. The shop walls are decorated with a myriad of fine art pieces from oil paintings to watercolor, a variety of pencil, pen and ink, and fine art marker drawings.

Not one of our artists rests in their down time. Stay Gold is about creativity and spending just as much time outside the shop creating art as when we are busy tattooing. Leo Gonzales is an oil painter with 25 years of experience and has worked on numerous album covers. Marie Sena has been doing watercolor paintings for 10 years, and they hang at the Pop Gallery in Santa Fe, as well as numerous galleries across the country. Pablo Martinez has been involved with graffiti for 15 years and is also a talented silk-screener. Matt Pippin has been an avid painter of tattoo-related flash and images for the last six years.

The shop has hosted many art shows in the years past and this Dec. 1 through 30, Stay Gold will play host to the art collection of shop owner Leo Gonzales. In addition to being a tattoo artist and oil painter, Leo is an avid fantasy art collector. The show will include original works by industry giants such as: Boris Vallejo, Brom, Ian Miller, Bob Eggleton and Albuquerque’s home town hero, R.K. Sloane!

So the next time you are in the area, stop by Stay Gold Tattoo. Here you can collect the very best in skin art or take a fine art piece home with you. Who knows, you may even catch us working on a new painting in between tattoos! Find us online at: | |
