Doug Lawrence Quartet, featuring Dan Trudell; Steve Figueroa Trio (opening)
Thursday, July 20, 7:30 p.m.—Outpost Performance Space, Albuquerque

Local tenor sax man Doug Lawrence has played with the best—such as Benny Goodman, Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan, the Count Basie Orchestra—and he’s bringing hip organist Dan Trudell along for the ride. Albuquerque native Steve Figueroa can slay you with a ballad, whip you up with a montuno or knock you out with hard bop.

Newport Jazz Festival All-Stars, Tribute to George Wein
Friday, July 21, 7:30 p.m.—The Lensic, Santa Fe
The Newport Jazz Festival All-Stars salute the man who started the festival tradition, pianist George Wein. The 2006 aggregation includes Frank Wess (flute and sax), Lew Tabackin (sax), Kenny Davern (clarinet), Randy Sandke (trumpet), Cedar Walton (piano), Peter Washington (bass), Kenny Washington (drums) and Artistic Director Howard Alden (guitar).

This local salsa favorite, fronted by vibist Chris Allen, will raise your spirits and get your bottom out of the chair.

Saturday, July 22, 4-6 p.m.—Old Town Plaza, Albuquerque
Paul Gonzales (trumpet) and Steve Figueroa (piano) head up a sterling crew specializing in hard bop and Afro-Cuban music, with César Bauvallet (trombone), Doug Lawrence (sax), Luis Guerra (bass) and Brandon Draper (drums).

Chris Dracup/Tommy Elskes Duo and the Memphis P.Tails
Saturday, July 22, 7 p.m.—Albuquerque Museum, Albuquerque
Native New Mexicans Dracup and Elskes team up for a set of acoustic blues featuring powerful vocals and mesmerizing guitar work, while the Memphis P.Tails offer their signature stinging blues while very plugged in.

New Orleans Night: Rebirth Brass Band and Los Hombres Calientes
Saturday, July 22, 7:30 p.m.—The Lensic, Santa Fe
If you try to sit still when Rebirth brings its heavy New Orleans funk onstage, you will hurt yourself. Los Hombres, featuring Irvin Mayfield (trumpet) and Bill Summers (percussion), offers multicultural contemporary New Orleans jazz with major grooves.

Sunday, July 23, 7:30 p.m.—The Lensic, Santa Fe
Saxophonist Branford Marsalis brings peerless technical mastery, an operatic emotional palette, a steely intellect and profound conviction to his playing—with a stunning quartet to match.

Wednesday, July 26, 6-8 p.m.—Old Town Plaza, Albuquerque
Flame-haired chanteuse Patti Littlefield will weave her spell with jazz standards and blues, backed by Kanoa Kaluhiwa (sax), Jeff Brown (piano), Michael Olivola (bass) and Arnaldo Acosta (drums).

Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra with Arturo O’Farrill
Thursday, July 27, 7:30 p.m.—National Hispanic Cultural Center, Albuquerque
The brainchild of Wynton Marsalis and pianist/music director O’Farrill, the ALJO is the resident Latin jazz orchestra for New York’s Jazz at Lincoln Center. Its 18 prominent performers are dedicated to fostering the heritage of the genre and making you dance.

Led by hugely entertaining and accomplished Cuban-born César Bauvallet, Son Como Son may well be the most popular and entertaining salsa band in the Southwest.

NEA Jazz Masters on Tour: The McCoy Tyner Septet/The Story of Impulse! Records
Saturday, July 29, 7:30 p.m.—The Lensic, Santa Fe
The master pianist Tyner and his hand-picked assemblage Dave Liebman or Eric Alexander (tenor sax), Donald Harrison (alto sax), Steve Turre (trombone), Nicholas Payton (trumpet), Charnett Moffett (bass), and Eric Gravatt (drums) perform ’60s and ’70s classics from one of the most adventurous labels in jazz, with tunes from Coltrane, Mingus, Sanders and more.

Women’s Voices, featuring Hillary Smith, Patty Stevens, Judy Christopher and Chris Calloway

A fan favorite, Women’s Voices gives the stage over to four popular and highly talented lady vocalists, backed by Stu MacAskie (piano), Luis Guerra (bass) and Brandon Draper (drums).
