Music to Your Ears
Low Spirits and Leftovers
Afro-Latin and Brazilian groove act Concepto Tambor was New Mexican until 2009. Now based in Long Beach, Calif., the local favorite brings its hip-hop and call and response-infused style back to Burque. Concepto performs on Friday, Nov. 23, along with local alt.funk quartet Merican Slang and DJ Buddhafunk at Low Spirits (2823 Second NW). The 21-and-over gig starts at 9 p.m., and admission is seven bucks. Bring your leftover red chile enchiladas to this potluck gig for discounted tickets.
Cosmic Dancing crew DJ Nicolatron and DJ Brendangerous spin house, rock, hip-hop and EDM at this post-Thanksgiving dance party on Saturday, Nov. 24. The duo is teaming up with house aficionado Josh Burg and Teddy No Name to give dancing queens and kings an energetic opportunity to use the extra caloric units gained from that second round of biscochitos . The 21-and-over dance party kicks off at Blackbird Buvette (509 Central NW) at 9 p.m., and there’s no cover.
Cornucopia of Metal
Show your gratitude for heavy metal at Sister (407 Central NW). Hailing from Savannah, Ga., thrash power trio Black Tusk will decimate Burqueño eardrums on Sunday, Nov. 25. The band teams up with Portland doom outfit Atriarch, local stoner metal five-piece Skulldron and space metal band Night Terrain to celebrate heavy sounds and head-banging. Flash the sign of the horns at this brutal fiesta. It starts at 9 p.m., and advance tickets are only $8.
