Et Tutu?: The 7th Annual Ballet Pro Musica Festival

The Spirit of Romance

When a festival’s mission is to unite live chamber music by virtuoso musicians with classical ballet by masters of their art, it becomes almost redundant to say the theme is “The Spirit of Romance.” But I guess “Romance Oozing Out Our Pores” didn’t strike the right tone. The seventh annual Ballet Pro Musica Festival dances its romantic heart out at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (1701 Fourth Street SW) tonight through Sunday, to the strains of Vivaldi, Prokofiev, Massenet and Dvorak. Mexico’s Compañia Nacional de Danza and La Catrina String Quartet with pianist Jacquelyn Helin combine their considerable powers to present four pieces, including two world-premiere ballets. Regular seats for the two-plus hours of the show run $35 to $78, while $125 per person snags you access to the Red Carpet lounge and fancy swag—including a “Champagne Symposium,” which sounds like a glorious new frontier in symposiums—today or tomorrow. Call the box office at 724-4771, or see balletpromusica.org for more info. National Hispanic Cultural Center • Fri Aug 9 • 8 pm • $35-$78 • ALL-AGES! • View on Alibi calendar
