A world of motion pictures

Globalquerque!, Albuquerque’s annual celebration of World Music and Culture, is set to launch its 11th outing this Sept. 25 and 26. To get audiences in the mood for the tune-filled event this year, organizers are sponsoring an International Cinema Series at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (1701 Fourth SW). ICS kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 7pm with the Colombian drama The Colors of the Mountain, about a group of young schoolboys desperate to retrieve their beloved soccer ball from a military minefield. On the docket after The Colors of the Mountain are the homewrecking Japanese comedy Hospitalité (Sept. 10), the artistic American documentary Pedro E. Guerrero: A Photographer’s Journey (Sept. 17) and the food-filled Spanish film Tasting Menu (Sept. 24). All those screenings start at 7pm. On Saturday, Sept. 26, as part of Globalquerque! proper, there will be two screenings: the New Mexico premiere of the global food system documentary Greening the Revolution (11am) and the Academy Award-nominated 2015 film Timbuktu from France/Mauritania/Mali (2:15pm). All screenings are free and open to the public. For a complete look at the films, including trailers, go to globalquerque.org/cinema.html.
