Cat Lady Crafts Reception

The Mewment is Now

I always thought that dubbing someone a “crazy cat lady” was just a new-fangled way for some judgmental animal-hating jerk to deride a woman for not fitting into their narrow view of the world. Like when we accused each other of being witches, or made Hester Prynne pin an “A” on her chest. Luckily, dancer, writer and artist extraordinaire Sara MacNeil is reclaiming the phrase in her new body of work, “Cat Lady Crafts” on display at Winning Coffee Co. through the month of January. You can join Sara, as well as dancers and comedians for the opening of this show about not quite fitting in this Friday, Jan. 6, from 6-8pm. Attending the opening is entirely free. (Maggie Grimason)

See artwork about not always fitting in in the art world and rejection in other facets of life from artist Sara MacNeil. Runs through 1/31. Performances by dancer Ariel Burge and comedians Danger K Varoz and Caitlin Minton.

Once I submitted to an art publication and the editor said, "We don't accept cell phone pictures of cat lady crafts." In reaction, I named my show of brand new art works "Cat Lady Crafts." The work is about not always fitting in, not only in the art world, but it's about rejection in other facets of life as well.

"Cat Lady Crafts" will be up the month of January at Winning Coffee, 111 Harvard Dr. SE. The opening night is Jan. 6th from 6-8 p.m. I'll be painting live at this show to a dance performance and comedy skit. There will be a performance by modern dancer Ariel Burge and acts by comedians Danger Varoz and Caitlin Minton
