PUBLIC OPENING THE LEEKYA FAMILY: MASTER CARVERS OF ZUNI PUEBLO

Marketed by regional traders, master carver Leekya Deyuse (known as Leekya) emerged in the early 1900s as the preeminent maker of commercial Zuni carvings in the 20th century. At 1 p.m. a talk by curator of history Deb Slaney will explore Leekya’s artistic life and body of work, illustrated by examples from the collections assembled for this groundbreaking project.  Enjoy creating art inspired by the exhibition in the Museum School from 1- 3 p.m.  Event is included with museum admission.
