Greater Tuna

Let’s Mess with Texas

Texas is the state that New Mexicans love to hate, and there are some very valid reasons for that: after all, Texans tried to invade us in the 1800s and continue invading us every winter to steal our fresh snow. Too often, however, our jabs toward our eastern neighbors get bogged down by lazy and recycled jokes. Go restock your comedic arsenal at Vortex Theatre, and learn how to lampoon Texas the right way with their production of perennial favorite Greater Tuna, a quirky and hilarious satirization of small-town life in the country’s biggest state. The show is a riotous whirlwind of humor, as actors Brennan Foster and Shawn Boyd together portray over 20 of the town of Tuna’s outlandish residents. The two will be performing Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm from June 30-Aug. 6 with 2pm matinees on Sunday afternoons. General admission tickets run a brisk $22, with discounts for students, so there’s no excuse for us all not to go out and mess with Texas together! (Adam Wood)

Greater Tuna Pokes Fun at Small-Town Texas Life

‘80s play still frighteningly relevant today

Brennan Foster and Shawn Boyd do all the heavy lifting in the two man show, Greater Tuna.

While Greater Tuna’s main agenda is to poke gentle fun at the ignorant ways of the small-town people of Texas, it also takes time to acknowledge some of the things to be appreciated about such towns.
