Multiple Juno Award winner, flutist, saxophonist and pianist, Jane Bunnett and her group comprising some of Cuba's most promising female musicians perform live.

She has been nominated for several Grammy Awards and received The Order of Canada, The Queens Diamond Jubilee, and The Premiers Award for Excellence. An internationally acclaimed musician, Bunnett is known for her creative integrity, improvisational daring and courageous artistry. Her exploration of Afro-Cuban melodies expresses the universality of music and her ability to embrace and showcase the rhythms and culture of Cuba have been groundbreaking. She has toured the world and as an educator, spokesperson and social activist, she remains unafraid to explore uncharted territory in her quest for excellence. In 2013, Bunnett created her latest group, Maqueque, comprising some of Cuba's most promising female musicians. They have been turning heads internationally since their self-titled debut release in 2014, which received a Juno award for Best Group Jazz Album of the Year. "Maqueque" in the Yoruban language translates to "the spirit of a young girl," which Bunnett says captures the vibe of the group and the song that shares its name. They release their second CD, Oddara in fall 2016 of which LatinJazzNet wrote, Oddara fills the air with the intoxicating spirit of joy and electricity... their shape-shifting enthusiasm is contagious."  Maqueque features Jane Bunnett, saxophone & flute;  plus Elizabeth Rodriguez , violin and vocals; Dánae Olano, piano; Celia Jiménez,  bass; Magdelys Savigne, batá drums and congas; and Yissy Garcia, drums.
