Featuring solar and celestial gazing, food, entertainment, a silent auction, raffle and prizes. Proceeds go to the Rio Rancho Astronomical Society for the construction of an observatory and outdoor planetarium in Rio Rancho.
The facility will be built at Rainbow Park on Southern Boulevard. Land for the facility has been donated by the Rio Rancho Parks and Recreation Department. We have engaged Winton Smith, URI Construction to provide preliminary architectural and construction plans.The astronomical society has three research grade telescopes valued at over $50,000. We have a 12.5” Newtonian / 16” Cassegrain donated by the Walter Hiltbrunner family and a 25” Obsession donated by John Sefick. We also have an interactive sundial.The Rio Rancho Boy Scouts of America have agreed to designate the project an Eagle Scout project and will oversee aspects of the project.Food will be available at the event on a cash basis. The food will be provided by Joe’s Pasta House, Hot Tamales, both of Rio Rancho. Coca Cola will provide drinks.Live music will be provided by Given Time from 6-8:00. There will be a raffle as well. Raffle winners will be announced at this time and the winners of the silent auction items will be posted. Winners need not be present to win.
