Music, poetry and visuals come together for a lovely morning of art.
With the Santa Fe Desert Chorale.
The Santa Fe Desert Chorale comes to Albuquerque to give Chatter concertgoers a taste of this summer’s 31st annual season of eclectic programs. At Chatter they’ll focus on selections from their “The Road Home: Songs of America” program which includes Shaker songs, bluegrass-inspired arrangements and American Spirituals.
New Mexico’s first professional choir and now one of the premier choral ensembles in the United States, the Santa Fe Desert Chorale hosts some of the finest singers from the Southwest and from around the country who come to Santa Fe to rehearse and perform works from the rich choral tradition, as well as new compositions commissioned by the Chorale.
Billy Brown will present the spoken word part of the performance this week. Brown is a poet and organizer of the monthly Fixed and Free poetry readings, and one of four editors of “Fixed and Free: poetry anthology 2011,” published by Mercury HeartLink in 2012. A multitalented creative force, he is a retired Intel employee, math teacher, singer, tutor, coach and more. He is also an accomplished baker who has delighted audiences with morning treats at Chatter Sunday as well as organizing the other volunteer bakers.
