151 Edmond Rd.
BERNALILLO, NM 87004
Sandoval County Historical Society presents a talk by author Pat McCraw about mining turquoise at the turn of the last century.
This time she will talk about the Pueblo Indian raids and the corrupt politicians as she brings out news stories and letters from the early 1900s about what really happened behind the scenes. The McNulty papers—over three thousand documents chronicling the history of the Tiffany Mine outside of Cerrilos—provide first hand accounts of how Indian raids interfered with mining operations as well as insight as to why politicians took no action to protect the American Turquoise Company mining operations. She will also display artifacts from this period.
Directions: Exit 242 from I-25. Go west on Hwy 550 to the new I-Hop restaurant and the west entrance to the Phillips gas station, then north on the gravel road to the DeLavy House at 151 Edmond Road.
