SUMMARY:Japanese Masters in Printmaking opening reception
DESCRIPTION:A unique exhibition featuring four printmakers who are rising s
 tars in Japan.Ando Shinji&rsquo\;s multi-plate botanical etchings merge th
 e best of Eastern and Western sensibilities. Seeds\, fruit and flowers are
  rendered with masterful while his compositions make beautiful use of the
 negative space. Takahiko Hayashi&rsquo\;s etchings are composed out of hun
 dreds of detailed lines creating masterfully bold abstractions\, often wit
 h vibrant color. His work resembles abstract landscapes\, and the titles o
 ften refer to the movements of the wind\, but his pieces also reflect his
 interest in philosophy such as the writing of Lao-Tse. Arie Furumoto&rsquo
 \;s abstract etchings are full of vibrant color and movement. These images
  look so more like paintings and which she achieves by combining the flat
 color fields of aquatints with the soft textures of softground. Lastly\, I
 kuta Koji&rsquo\;s black and white mezzotints make full use of this medium
  where lights are burnished out of a pitted plate. In his realistic images
 \, owls\, flowers and the moon emerge out of the darkness of the night. Th
 is is an exemplary show where the artist&rsquo\;s medium supports and elev
 ates his or her subject matter. Exhibition dates: February 1 &ndash\; 23\,
  2013 First Friday Reception: February 1\, 5 &ndash\; 8 PM &nbsp\; &nbsp\;
