hat Yiddish dance would play a big part in his life. Upon hearing an album
by &lsquo\;The Klezmorim&rsquo\; during his college years in the 1980&rsq
uo\;s\, he became wholly inspired and soon adapted\, directed and choreogr

e toured the country with the acclaimed Aman Folk Ensemble of Los Angeles

playing her trumpet.Elaine & Susan will teach klezmer tunes from their kle
zmer-dynasty family's repertoire and Bruce will teach 3 unique dance class
es. At 10am Bruce teaches 'Sacred Ecstatic Jewish Dance' -- From the momen
t Miriam took out her timbrel and began to dance after the Hebrews crossed
the Red Sea\, dance has played a continuous vital role in Jewish ritual l
ife. According to folkologists\, Yemenite and Hasidic dance are the origin
al source of all other Jewish dance to follow. This workshop will explore
the fascinating gestural language\, movements and styling of these two ecs
tatic dance forms and the percussive rhythms and nigns (wordless melodies)
that accompany them. The workshop will begin with stretches and poses ins
pired by the Hebrew letters. At 2:15pm he'll teach 'Bawdy and Profane Jewi
sh Dance.' Participants in this workshop will experience on their feet how
the more sacred Yemenite and Hasidic dance influenced their future secula
r offsprings: Klezmer and Israeli folk dance. Then\, take a listen and bus
t a move as Yemenite and Hasidic dance enter the 21st century and meet hip
hop\, rap\, swing and the mambo! The workshop will begin with stretches a
nd poses inspired by the Hebrew letters. And at 4:00pm Bruce leads YIDDISH
TANGO. Inspired by the body of Yiddish tango music that came out of the J
ewish theater and cabarets of the Twenties and early Thirties\, this works
hop explores the meeting place between the more communal Yiddish circle da
nce and the intimate embrace of the Argentine tango. Please wear comfortab
le clothes and shoes to dance in for all of the dance workshops. On Sunday
there will also be a &lsquo\;Lunch &lsquo\;n Learn&rsquo\; with the docum
