DESCRIPTION:Emotional works varying from abstract to minimalist.Neil Smith 
 painted what he felt in abstract forms. Smith was first and foremost a hum
 anitarian. The span of his work in this exhibit begins in the 1970s when h
 e lived in The San Francisco Bay Area of California\, and shows a man who 
 was always exploring. As he grew older\, his work displayed more concern w
 ith how the world operated\, especially when he vehemently disagreed with 
 the way the world showed up\; he calls on the observer\, as well as himsel
 f\, to question beliefs by inserting words into his art\, thus compelling 
 thoughtfulness on part of the viewer. &nbsp\;His later work took on a mini
 malist perspective.&nbsp\;The plight of Native Americans and the black man
  is a subject of many of his paintings. Yet\, his emotional range included
  serenity\, shown here in the painting titled &ldquo\;Cathedral.&rdquo\;&n
