SUMMARY:2nd Annual PeacePal Youth Service Summit
DESCRIPTION:Students from several local high schools throughout the Albuque
 rque area participate in a day-long training focusing on the service learn
 ing initiative\, &ldquo\;Stamp Out Malaria.&rdquo\;Students will learn and
  discuss issues related to this global health epidemic and develop plans f
 or service projects to educate community members and raise funds for much 
 needed bed nets. This process facilitates youth in developing leadership s
 kills and empowers them to achieve goals. Students make connections with f
 riends across the world through our year-long letter writing program.&nbsp
 \; Participation in the service projects naturally evolve from these conne
 ctions and are based on local needs. &ldquo\;Stamp Out Malaria&rdquo\; com
 pels local youth to be the change they want to see in the world. A majorit
 y of PeacePal's international partners are located in Africa\, where malar
 ia is still the largest cause of death. Even in this age of advanced techn
 ology and medicines\, the single most effective prevention for this devast
 ating disease is a mosquito bed net. In response to this\, PeacePal has la
 unched its service project\, &ldquo\;Stamp Out Malaria\,&rdquo\; to raise 
 funds to buy bed nets for our friends in West Africa. In the 2010-2011 sch
 ool year PeacePal students around the country raised $20\,000 enabling Pea
 cePal to send 4\,700 life-saving bed nets to friends in Ghana and Togo! Ab

 gh education pen pal and service learning organization which seeks to igni
 te a generation of young people to create peace globally through the devel
 opment of person to person connections across borders and over time. With 
 the work of our participants\, PeacePal strives to provide an antidote to 
 the inevitable conflict which arises when people are disconnected and view
  their differences more prominently. PeacePal currently has programs in: A
 fghanistan\, Ghana\, Kenya\, Nepal\, Senegal\, Togo\, Uganda\, and the U.S
