This group exhibition in the downstairs gallery of Native American artists offers a compelling look at the effects of the military and corporatization on land-based indigenous cultures. It will be held jointly at the 55th Venice Biennale and at 516 ARTS. It muses on the tension between home and exile, as displacement and the diaspora define the American experience. A period of sustained creativity enabling multi-platform works to be realized at the dual exhibition sites include: the production of multiples ceremonially distributed in a traditional “give away” manner, the projection of prints onto historic architecture, live printmaking, flag marches, audio works, wheat pasting in concert with local graffiti artists, and launches of seed-embedded prints made into paper boats. Partnering organizations include University of Wisconsin Madison, Santa Fe Art Institute, University of Venice, Italy and the City of Venice, Italy.
