Our February meeting features Dr. Bernard Zak, Arctic Climate Researcher, giving a "Climate Change Update" on Planet Earth. Dr. Zak initiated the development of the Oliktok Point Arctic Research Facility (OPARF) on the arctic coast of Alaska; as part of the NSA/AAO facility, its principal purpose is to better understand why the arctic ice pack is melting back much more rapidly than models predict. Dr. Zak retired from Sandia Labs at the end of 2010, but continues to work with them as a consultant and is affiliated with UNM, NMSU and the University of Alaska.  Free and open to the public.
