DESCRIPTION:A presentation by Pam Lujan-Hauer\, award-winning traditional a
 nd contemporary potter from the Taos Pueblo.Pam will demonstrate her art a
 nd tell the story of Pueblo Indian pottery\, from the history of clay as a
 n art form and the origins of the earliest pottery\, to the threats to tra
 ditional pottery. The presentation includes displays of raw materials and 
 finished pieces\, and slide show. Questions and discussion are welcomed as
  she encourages interaction from the audience.&nbsp\;Pam Lujan-Hauer studi
 ed pottery making at Santa Fe&rsquo\;s Institute of American Indian Arts i
 n the &lsquo\;70s. She was originally inspired and taught from childhood b
 y her great-aunts\, Josephine Ortiz and Anita Lujan\, both highly regarded
  traditional Pueblo potters. All of her pieces are coil built from clays t
 hat she digs and processes herself. Her traditional pottery is made from T
 aos micaceous clay\, which contains mica chips and is native to northern N
 ew Mexico. Her contemporary pottery is made from a variety of native clays
 \, all of which are hand gathered and processed according to native tradit
 ion.Carrying on the tradition of her great-aunts\, Pam inspires and encour
 ages others through her passion for teaching and demonstrating. Awarded se
 veral artist residencies at various New Mexico schools\, she has taught po
 ttery courses at the UNM and at the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Instit
 ute. She conducts numerous workshops throughout New Mexico and Arizona\, i
 ncluding annual children&rsquo\;s workshops through the Harwood Art Center
  and the Maxwell Museum&rsquo\;s summer programs. She also demonstrates he
 r pottery making skills at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerqu
 e\, the NM State Fair Indian Village\, the Maxwell Museum in Albuquerque\,
  and the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture in Santa Fe.Her work is exhibited
  and sold at museums\, galleries and art shows throughout the country.Pam 
 Lujan-Hauer is the recipient of numerous awards and honors. In 2011 she re
 ceived the prestigious Southwestern Association for Indian Arts&rsquo\; Di
 scovery Fellowship for Traditional Pottery. Her current works\, incorporat
 ing a silver inlay technique for both jewelry and sculptures\, will be ava
 ilable for sale.
