Presented by surf legend Frosty Hesson.
Frosty was one of the first to ride the colossal waves (up to 80 foot swells!) at the famed surf spot Mavericks in northern California, but he is most beloved as a coach and mentor. In his memoir, Frosty talks about how the challenges he faced early in life helped teach him principles to live by: work hard, set concrete goals, and, perhaps most importantly, "enjoy." Though simple in nature, Frosty's teaching philosophies have empowered many to achieve their dreams, including a young surfer named Jay Moriarity, who became a surfing phenomenon in his own right under Frosty's guidance before his untimely death in a diving accident. Their inspiring relationship was the basis for the recently released major motion picture "Chasing Mavericks," in which actor Gerard Butler starred as Frosty. He will be speaking at Bookworks.
