Featuring five local comedians, free dessert, a silent auction, and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available for purchase. The event will raise money for Agora Crisis Center to go out to schools in New Mexico in order to raise suicide prevention awareness.
Hosted by Phi Sigma Pi at the Albuquerque Press Club on April 27, 2013 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m MT. Tickets are needed to attend this once-in-a-lifetime event. The comedians that will be featured are Scott Bringe, Stephen (Smitty) Smith, John Cuellar and Goldie Garcia. Albuquerque’s own, Bringe is currently a college student majoring in Theater at the University of New Mexico. One of his most recent accomplishments was playing the lead role in his acting class’ first performance called Cover. Bringe is also an accomplished free runner. Atlanta, Ga. native, Smith recently pursued a career in the military but later realized his passion was comedy. One of his first shows took place in Iraq in front of coalition forces. He has placed and won multiple contest around the Duke City and has performed on the renowned “Steven Michael Quesada Show”. Cuellar started performing comedy at Laffs open mic nights. As a finalist in “The Southwest Laugh Off”, he performed for an audience of over 500 people in Albuquerque’s Civic Plaza. He was also a featured performed on MYTV50’s “Duke City Comedy League”. Garcia is a native New Mexican and has been named New Mexico’s First Lady of Stand-Up Comic. She is a former Albuquerque Tribune Newspaper Humor Columnist. She is also the original creator of the famous glittery bottle cap art (copyrighted 1991). She has opened for Paul Rodriquez, Rob Schneider and many more. Garcia has been recently discovered by Heritage Hotels and has been given a grant to perform her stand-up act for six nights this coming summer in late June at the Maria Benitiz Cabaret Lounge in the Lodge of Santa Fe. All proceeds from this event will be used to raise awareness about suicide prevention through the non-profit organization Agora Crisis Center, the nation’s oldest student-run crisis center.
