An evening of music by this young international quartet, presented by the Santa Fe Concert Association.
Hailing from Germany, The Signum Quartet has made a mark on the international quartet scene by virtue of its energetic and lively interpretations, and has established itself as one of the most exciting young ensembles of its generation. Founded in 1994, the ensemble has been playing with its current personnel since 2007. It is currently supported by the stART Programme of the Bayer Cultural Affairs Department (Bayer Kultur) and the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists scheme. Intensive studies with the Alban Berg Quartet, the Artemis Quartet and the Melos Quartet as well as masterclasses and collaborations with György Kurtág, Walter Levin, Alfred Brendel, Leon Fleisher and Jörg Widmann have shaped the artistic development of the Signum Quartet, a laureate of numerous prizes (Deutscher Musikwettbewerb, Premio Paolo Borciani, ICMC Hamburg, and the London International String Quartet Competition, where it was furthermore awarded the coveted audience prize.)
Concert appearances have led the Signum Quartet to Madrid, Basel, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Essen and Bonn as well as festivals in Schleswig-Holstein, Rheingau and Aix-en-Provence.
At the invitation of the Goethe Institute, the young ensemble has undertaken extended concert tours which have hitherto seen them perform in Asia, Central America and Africa.
Concerts by the four musicians have been broadcast nationally and internationally by stations of the ARD, Deutschlandfunk, DRS, ORF, BBC and Arte. The Quartet released a CD in January 2012 on the Capriccio label of quartet movements of Schubert, Wolf, Puccini, Orff, Webern, Rihm, and Ives.
