Deadtown Lovers • Dallas • Terri Schiavo Dance Party

Deadtown Lovers Do Dallas

Deadtown Lovers formed in fall 2011, and they played locally for about a year. Comprised of dual couples—all veterans of the local music scene—half the band moved away last September. Their sound … well, I’ve been looking for an excuse to sling excessive rock crit gibberish like a “third-wave neo-proto-post-punk revival” for a while, and this may be my best chance yet. I mean, they cover a Wire song (“Ex-Lion Tamer”) and are snappy dressers favoring black, so you know you’re in good hands. Catch DTL churning out dark, propulsive rock at their one-off reunion show. Terri Schiavo Dance Party hasn't broken up, but this may be the last chance to witness them jamming their simple, messy brand of fun punk for a bit, as Joe Cardillo's job is dragging him elsewhere. I’ve only seen Dallas once, at their debut performance for last year’s ABQ Zinefest wrap party. Neither Marya Errin Jones nor Andy Lyman seem to do anything halfway, and I found myself simultaneously dumbfounded and wildly entertained by delirious rants/mantras set to epileptic drum solos. I hear they’ve added a guitarist since. Catch all three bands on Saturday, May 4, at the Tannex (1417 Fourth Street SW). The show starts at 7 p.m., and there's a $5 cover. The event invite promises probable projections, everpresent zines and a BYOC (cupcakes) vibe. (Derek Caterwaul)
