In 2011, when he was just 19, Zach Wahls stood before the Iowa House Judiciary Committee and poured his heart out. “Not once have I ever been confronted by an individual who realized independently that I was raised by a gay couple,” he said. “And you know why? Because the sexual orientation of my parents has had zero impact on the content of my character.” Since his speech went viral on YouTube, Wahls has continued to fight for marriage equality. He spoke at the Democratic National Convention in 2012 and released My Two Moms: Lessons of Love, Strength, and What Makes a Family. He'll be discussing the book and his message that same-sex parents and their children are not alone at 3 p.m. this Saturday at the North Fourth Arts Center. (Lisa Barrow)
