Written by New Mexico playwright Patricia Crespin, directed by Maggz Gallegos.
Do you believe in love at first sight? Well, Benito Gutierrez did, ever since he met the alluring but enigmatic Suzie on a lonely New Mexico highway while on his way to basic training. She was everything Benito was looking for in a woman. She was polite, yet strong. Respectable, yet passionate. He swears to return to her after his training to marry her, but when he returns to the lonely highway he finds Suzie’s mother and discovers that Suzie died months before he ever saw her. In a state of shock, Benito returns to his post and is sent off to Vietnam. Not only is he plagued with the day to day violence and trauma that was the Vietnam war, but Benito cannot stop obsessing over the brief hours he spent with Suzie and how they came to be if she were supposedly dead. Eventually, Benito begins to question his own sanity. Benito is released from the military under “medical discharge” and sent back to New Mexico. But instead of returning to his barrio in Albuquerque, Benito finds himself back at the lonely highway where he begins an investigation into the death of the only woman he has ever loved.
