Patchwork Hearts of Copper and Strange
Looking for a unique weekend bursting with art and culture? How about a trip to superbly quirky Madrid, New Mexico? Metallo Gallery is hosting What The Heart Knows, a collection of copper hearts molded by fire and mallet and aged by rich patina-infused browns. Artist and gallery owner Cassidy Watt aims to highlight the raw qualities of the heart by creating an emotional vernacular about liveliness and distress—wrought by deep cuts and the playful patchwork of patterned copper. The opening reception on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 4 to 8 p.m., will feature the music of bluegrass-country fusion act Anthony Leon and the folky stylings of Paige Barton. An array of platinum jewelry and moody oil paintings will accompany Watt’s original pieces. What The Heart Knows will be on display until Sept. 6. Do yourself a favor, get out of Burque, take in some art and maybe even a pint at the neighboring Mine Shaft Saloon. (Jeremy Shattuck)
