A Night of Improv (But With Needles)
Whether you've only fantasized about self-expression through the geometric harmony of sewn fabric layers, or you're already an accomplished quilter, Jacquie Gering should be on your radar. The coauthor of Quilting Modern: Techniques and Projects for Improvisational Quilts has made a name for herself as a blogger and innovator in the quilting world. Hip Stitch (7001 San Antonio NE), the popular local den of needlework know-how, enjoyed her 2012 visit so much they've invited her back for an in-store appearance on Friday, Sept. 6. The visit has two parts. Starting at 5pm, she'll sign copies of her gorgeous instruction manual; attendance is free. At 6:30, in the multipurpose room two doors down, Gering will haul out the three suitcases' worth of quilted goodies she's bringing from Chicago and discuss the stories behind each stylish piece. She'll be surrounded by a kaleidoscope of hanging quilts made by Hip Stitch customers. The catered lecture is $15; tickets are available at the door, online at hipstitchabq.com or by calling 821-2739. (Lisa Barrow)
