Revolutionary Rhyme

Peruvian-born, Harlem-raised rapper Immortal Technique (née Felipe Andres Coronel) began his career in hip-hop after doing time for his part in a violent high school altercation. While he was incarcerated, he began reading the work of revolutionaries like Malcolm X. When he was paroled, he began studying political science and, ultimately, found his calling selling his music on the street and battling fiercely against other MCs. His lyrics tend to focus on class struggle, poverty and institutional racism. $20 gets fans of all ages in the door to experience Immortal Technique on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Sunshine, along with Long Island artist Diabolic, Minneapolis-based rhyme-sayer I Self Devine and hip-hop act Brother Ali.
