At merely 25 years old, singer-songwriter, Max Gomez has already been performing for more than a decade. With his mature and assured songwriting, wise lyrics, and skillful guitar chops, he sounds more like someone a generation or two older than he, in the seasoned vein of Jackson Browne and John Prine. Growing up on his family’s ranch, he split his time between Taos, NM and Kansas. A blues enthusiast from an early age, he immersed himself in the Delta and traditional blues of Lead Belly, Big Bill Broonzy and Robert Johnson, later turning his interest to American folk artists such as Townes Van Zandt, Kris Kristofferson, Guy Clark and John Hiatt. His songwriting became a form of storytelling that, as he describes it “oscillates between everyman poetics and enigma.” His 2013 debut release, Rule The World, on New West Records, was produced by Jeff Trott (Stevie Nicks, Sheryl Crow) and features varying themes of heartbreak, regret, young love, desperation and, ultimately redemption. The lead single “Run From You” was made into a video directed by Kiefer Sutherland and the title track was singled out by Esquire magazine as one of the “Best New Songs of January 2013.” USA Today wrote that it displays “a directness and depth that deserve attention from fans of Americana music and beyond.
