Sergei Prokofiev wrote the immensely popular symphonic work for children, Peter and the Wolf, in the mid-1930s. Though the text he supplied was rife with Soviet-era communist propaganda, the tale of good standing up to evil and the composer's lush and imaginative orchestration—where a different instrument represents each character in the story—resulted in the work becoming one of the world's most popular pieces of art music. The post-postmodernists at the UNM College of Fine Arts and a group of local musicians and artists known as the Stile Music Initiative revisit, re-imagine and refine the work for contemporary audiences for just $0 to $20 at the College of Fine Arts Downtown Studio on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 7pm as well as Sunday, Nov. 26 at 2pm. The eclectic, electrifying and educational performance features baritone Tychiko Cox narrating the tale. Local poet Sarita Sol Gonzáles begins the proceeds with a set of original performance poetry.
