BOB: Best Anything We Forgot

It's a chance for you to kick us in the pants, complain about categories we did and didn't have, and give shout-outs to your homies. We got a vote for Hamlet 2 as the worst movie filmed in Albuquerque. Gene Grant's "The Line" on PBS got a vote as the best local TV show. Grant got another nod when someone voted for him and Jim Belshaw as the best ex-newspaper columnists. Another Burqueño said we should nickname our fair city "The Cheap and Sunny," probably after that killer Fast Heart Mart song. And how's this for heartwarming? Best reason to live in Albuquerque: the people.

Every year I have as many people I can think of vote for me as the Best Massage Therapist in Albuquerque, and every year I'm disappointed not to find that title. Last year I saw a "Best Deep Tissue Therapist" listed as Bobbie Martin, but if you look up a license verification for that particular name for Licensed Massage Therapists in the state of New Mexico, there isn't one; however there is a licensed LMT Robert Martin (who's my personal massage therapist - and yes he goes extremely deep), who goes by the nickname Bobbie J. I've talked with Bobby J. about the so-called winner of the Deep Tissue Therapist listed in the Best Of Burque last year, and he had no idea of the whole event that took place let alone that it may have been him that won. At least get his name right because it doesn't benefit his business if no one can find him under the wrong name (ex: phone book).

I'm curious as to how the titles of Best of... get picked because I have lots of friends and most of them said they voted for me, so I'm wondering why there's never a title of BEST MASSAGE THERAPIST. I sent out ads to my friends and clients telling them what to put in the voting slots (ex: Q:Best Massage Therapist A: Tavia Schwartz LMT#3861 DBA Muscle Surfing), and I let them know that there's a minimum of ten votes per ballet before it's accepted.

Some of the titles of Best Of Anything We Forgot are not likely to be repeated votes by more than 1 person, so how are they getting picked (Ex: Best Place To See Clouds On A Starry Night). I can't imagine lots of people in Albuquerque thought that up and decided to put that as their Best Of vote in the box.

So, why aren't there any Best Of Anything We Forgot picks in this weeks issue of the Alibi??? At least in IQ they have a Best Massage Therapist winner ( Kristen Kurens whom I know, and yes she is good- I've gotten massaged by her).

why was there a list for Forgots for 2008 but not 2009? This paragraph of Forgots for 2009 is confusing. "It's a chance for you to kick us in the pants" does that mean we're supposed to vote for the Forgots now that the issue is out, and if so where are we to do that? Here in the comments I guess?

While readers are filling out their online Best of Burque, there's a place at then end to add categories you wish were part of the formal ballot. It's a way for you to tell us what we're missing.

The voting is over, but if there's a category you wish were in Best of Burque, feel free to add it as a comment here.

As far as "Best Massage," we didn't have that as a formal category this year. We'll make note of it.

The above paragraph is just a brief sampling of some of what people typed in the "Best Anything We Forgot" part of the ballot. There were scores of entries, some of them silly, some of them serious. Until something is a part of the formal ballot—and "Best Massage" is a great category, maybe one we should include next year—it isn't automatically put in the paper. It isn't something readers have voted on.

    Hope that answers your questions.

  • Best Drag Queen In Albuquerque  [ Wed Jan 20 2010 2:20 PM ]

The best Drag Queen of 2009 would have to be Madison Eriks (Michael Maldonado). I have seen him grow from a curious onlooker to the best dancing perorming drag queen of 2009. Great Job dude and don't stop performing!!!

  • Best Entertainer In Albuquerque  [ Wed Jan 20 2010 2:22 PM ]

I vote Adan Branchal as the best entertainer in Albuquerque. A singer (who just put out his new album La Familia Branchal Sique de tradicion), a Drag Queen, and a kick ass hair styist!!! Keep it up Buddy!

  • Best Drag Queen  [ Mon Jan 25 2010 2:47 PM ]

Anastasia should be the best drag queen. No matter the role, you see an outstanding professional performance!!

  • Best Entertainer in Albuquerque  [ Mon Jan 25 2010 2:48 PM ]

I nominate Adan Branchal as Best Entertainer. What a voice! Doesn't matter if he's singing mariachi or blues...he's fantastic!

  • Best Letter  [ Tue Jan 26 2010 10:39 AM ]

I think Tavia wrote the best letter about not being named the best of anything ever.

  • Dear Braziliansbyjen, make your Brazilian Wax award a reality  [ Mon Mar 1 2010 8:12 PM ]

by voting in this year's poll

  • Best Towing Company  [ Wed Apr 7 2010 2:28 PM ]

Budget Towing Company would have to be the best tow company! They are extreamly helpful and cheep!

  • It's spelled "cheap"  [ Wed Apr 7 2010 3:01 PM ]

"Cheep" is the sound a bird outside your window makes, and if you work and/or own that company, which this obviously reeks of, you should be embarassed.

  • kinda like...  [ Wed Apr 7 2010 3:46 PM ]

Seems they "forgot" a number of categories this year, as well...

  • Look over here, Brian  [ Wed Apr 7 2010 5:49 PM ]

2010 has the most categories we've ever run, because we were able to cast a wide net to begin with. You must be thrilled about that. ;)

  • and with all due respect  [ Thu Apr 8 2010 10:24 AM ]

It's missing five, and I'm not the only one that noticed :)
