The Alibi's Second Annual Photo Contest

By Steven Robert Allen

I've received quite a few frantic phone calls over the last couple weeks from people wondering just where the @#$*&!! our photo contest went. Yes, we originally planned to run the winners in our March 24 issue, but the contest got pushed back a couple weeks due to some scheduling mumbo jumbo that wouldn't interest you (trust me). We advertised the extension repeatedly in the paper, but several of you seem to have missed it.

WINNER—”Aspen Shadows” by Tom Sahs. We had unanimous agreement among our quartet of judges that this arresting photo should take home the prize in this category. Squint your eyes a bit, and Sahs’ simple, beautifully composed image of bars of shadow curving across unblemished snowcould almost be an abstract painting.

WINNER—“I Colored Your Pennies” by Jessyca Brown. I’m not sure why we all loved this image so much. We probably each had our own reasons. For me, it seems kind of sexy and rough. Just like Albuquerque!

WINNER—Untitled by K. Miller. It just so happens that the winner of the annual Ugliest Dog on the Planet Award is also the winner of our pets category. Imagine that! Man, this dog is hideous, but good hideous, not bad hideous.
