Phantom FilmSouthwest Music and the Albuquerque Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will be sponsoring two screenings of the 1925 silent film classic The Phantom of the Opera starring Lon Chaney at the Central United Methodist Church (1605 Copper NE). Internationally acclaimed theater organist Walt Strony is scheduled to perform accompaniment and “musical enhancement” for the horror hallmark. Screenings will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct., 29, and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30. Tickets for either showing are a mere $5 and are available by calling 881-2232. Seating is limited, so reserve tickets early.

Spooky CinemaBeginning in the '30s, aging magicians used to rent out movie theaters and put on late night “Spook Shows.” These frighteningly cheesy extravaganzas consisted of a feature film (usually a cheap old horror flick) and a series of live stage acts. By the '60s, the practice had pretty much died out. This Halloween, Alibi Midnight Movie Madness will resurrect this long-dead art form with the Spook-tacular Halloween Spook Show (with Spooks!). The Spook Show will take place at the Guild Cinema in Nob Hill on Friday, Oct. 29, and Saturday, Oct. 30, at the stroke of midnight. Our feature film will be William Castle's 1959 monster masterpiece The Tingler starring horror icon Vincent Price. The film will be presented in its original theatrical gimmick “Percepto.” In addition to the feature, we'll be presenting the creepy comedy short “Dr. Bone's House of Hairy Horrors,” which will be shown in the high-tech wonder of “4-D” (no glasses required). There will also be a live séance calling up the ghosts of the Guild Cinema, prize giveaways and loads more spook-filled surprises. The entire horrifying evening will be hosted by our groovy gravedigger, Luther. Tickets are $7 at the door. Seating is limited, so get there early!

Horror ShowOn Saturday, Oct. 30, the historic El Rey Theater will host the Rocky Horror Zombie Ball. This will feature Albuquerque's exclusive cinematic showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, beginning at 8 p.m. Following the film will be a dance/concert featuring industrial goth D.J. group Darker Vision and a musical stageshow performance by Creepshow. Costumes are encouraged, and there will be prizes. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Ghostly ImagesOn Sunday, Oct. 31, the Lensic Performing Art Space in Santa Fe will present the Fourth Annual Halloween Bash. Radio Free Santa Fe 98.1 will be broadcasting live. There will be a costume contest, great prizes and a screening of the comedy classic Ghostbusters. Tickets are $5 and the show gets underway at 8 p.m.
