Tromatic Events Reoccur—TromaDance New Mexico is now accepting submissions. Burning Paradise Video has once again teamed up with Troma Entertainment to bring back last year's successful three-day festival of low-to-no-budget genre filmmaking. The festival is scheduled to take place October 21-23 at the Guild Cinema in Nob Hill. Legendary exploitation filmmaker Lloyd Kaufman, president of Troma and creator of the Toxic Avenger, will attend the festivities. Local filmmakers are encouraged to submit short films/videos as well as features. Any genre is welcome and sex and violence need not be included (though they are certainly welcome). Deadline is October 1. For official rules and entry forms, log on to burningparadise.net or stop by Burning Paradise Video (800 Central SW).

Cinema Karaoke—On Saturday, August 6, Swig in Santa Fe will present an early selection from this December's Santa Fe Film Festival. Karaoke-A-Go-Go was shot on a shoestring budget during 2004. It is a comic send-up of the Santa Fe karaoke scene, which filmmaker Ursula Coyote helped popularize at the now-defunct Bar B in 2001. Coyote's weekly karaoke rendezvous has since moved to Swig on Thursday nights. The film was shot using all local singers and models and features a number of locations throughout the state. A reception begins at 7 p.m. the night of the screening with karaoke drink specials and hors d'oeuvres. There is no charge for admittance to the reception or screening, but donations to offset production costs are welcome.

The Stink in Santa Fe—If you're located slightly north of Albuquerque and still haven't taken a gander at the locally lensed zombie flick The Stink of Flesh, the Santa Fe Film Center is giving you a chance this week. The Film Center, located at the old Cinemacafé (1616 St. Michaels), will be screening the film on Sunday, Aug. 7, at 7 p.m. and Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $7 for seniors and full-time students and $6 for Santa Fe Film Festival Members. It's safe to assume that a handful of cast and crew will be in attendance, so come check it out!
