Shootout: Take Two--The Duke City Shootout continues into this weekend. Last Saturday’s shotgun start launched seven teams of filmmakers on a weeklong race to cast, shoot and edit seven short films. The films will premiere at this weekend’s gala final event. Until then, however, the Shootout still has a few surprises up its sleeves. Thursday, July 25--Beginning at 10 a.m., the Insomnia Lounge, located in the ABQ Hyatt’s Atrium Ballroom, will start demonstrating various new technologies in the fields of animation and digital filmmaking. At 3 p.m., there will be a panel discussion on “Women in Entertainment.” Ellen Sandler (writer/producer of “Everybody Loves Raymond”), Tracy Mercer (VP of development for Morgan Freeman’s Relations Entertainment) and Liz Langston (cofounder of the 48-Hour Film Festival) will be in attendance. The panel will take place in the Insomnia Lounge. At 7 p.m., filmmaker Joe Conti will premiere his New Mexico-shot horror/adventure film Army of the Dead. This free event takes place at the KiMo Theatre in downtown Albuquerque.

Saturday, July 29--Panel discussions continue at the Insomnia Lounge with a look at “The Future of Distribution” at 10 a.m. and “Making No Money Look Good” at 1 p.m. The Shootout’s Gala Premiere Night wraps up the festival at 7 p.m. at the Albuquerque Convention Center’s Kiva Auditorium.
