Week in Sloth

The Week in Sloth

Thursday 10

Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God (Sci-Fi 9 p.m.) While this direct-to-video sequel to the 2000 theatrical bomb sticks a bit more faithfully to the rules of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons as laid out by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, it must be noted that the cast features not a single member of the Wayans family. I mean, the $15 million budget on this one wasn’t enough to lure Marlon Wayans back. But you’d think they could have got a lesser Wayans. Hell, Kim Wayans ain’t exactly busy these days.

Friday 11

“Chet Atkins: A Life in Music” (KRQE-13 7 p.m.) Winner of 13 Grammy Awards and the most recorded instrumentalist in music history, Chet Atkins’ country music twang helped shape early rock and roll. This new documentary looks back at the guitar picker’s influential career and his effect on performers like Elvis Presley.

“The World’s Strangest Remains” (Travel Channel 7 p.m.) What better way to spend your vacation than discovering the variety of ways that humans have preserved bodies? Seriously. Travel Channel shows you the best-preserved corpses, tells you where to see them and explains the bizarre stories behind them.

Saturday 12

“Thugaboo: Sneaker Madness” (Nickelodeon 7 p.m.) Shawn, Marlon and Keenen Ivory Wayans are the creators of this inspirational cartoon about a group of inner-city school kids who ... learn a lot of lessons. It looks like a cross between “Fat Albert” and “The Cabbage Patch Kids” and is intended to teach kids “the importance of self-esteem and being themselves.” Which is kind of ironic coming from the stars of White Chicks and Little Man.

Sunday 13

“Fox Fall Preview” (KASA-2 6 p.m.) Get out your TV Guides and your pencils and start handicapping. The Fall Season Dead Pool starts in a month or so.

Monday 14

Hollywood Knights (Speed 7 p.m.) It’s not what I’d call a classic, but the Columbus, Ohio, punk rock band New Bomb Turks did steal their name from this movie’s main character.

“Weeds” (Showtime 10 p.m.) The second season crops up tonight.

Tuesday 15

“Miss Teen USA” (KOB-4 7 p.m.) What’s the cheapest and easiest (hence, “cheesiest”) way to get publicity for your event? Hire an “Access Hollywood” correspondent to host it. Like Nancy O’Dell (Miss USA) or Billy Bush (Miss Universe) or Shaun Robinson (this postpubescent pageant).

“Trapped in TV Guide” (TV Guide Network 7 p.m.) This new reality show features TV-based pranks. Tonight, for example, producers use “Knight Rider” and “Baywatch” for inspiration. ... People, it’s a seriously bad sign when David Hasselhoff becomes your primary source of inspiration.

Wednesday 16

“Blue Man Group: Inside the Tube” (KNME-5 8:30 p.m.) The founding members of oddball performance troupe Blue Man Group speak (they can speak?) about their creative process and give insight into “the underlying theme of their work.” ... It’s three guys painted blue banging on plastic tubes. I mean, isn’t the “theme” kinda obvious?
