Week in Sloth

The Week in Sloth

Thursday 3

“Fear Itself” (KOB-4 9.m.) Like all anthology series, this horror show has had its ups and downs. Here’s hoping tonight’s episode--about a cop trapped in a precinct house with a cannibal--is one of the ups. After all, it’s directed by fan fave Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator, From Beyond).

“Bullshit!” (Showtime 8 p.m.) NASA? You guys are gonna call bullshit on NASA? I mean, sure, our country has sunk an awful lot into the space program while netting some occasionally nebulous benefits. But aren’t there a few sleazier scam artists on the planet you could debunk first? ’Cause I’m pretty sure Neil Armstrong can still kick your ass.

Friday 4

See above.

Saturday 5

A Gunfighter’s Pledge (Hallmark 7 p.m.) A lawman tries to help a widow when a ruthless businessman wants to sell her farm. ... For this Luke Perry gave up a slot on the new “90210”?

Sunday 6

“I Love Money” (VH1 7 p.m.) In VH1’s new reality series/game show, former “contestants” on “Flavor of Love,” “I Love New York” and “Rock of Love” live in a house with a lot of cameras (natch) and stab each other in the back to win money. ... Seriously, VH1, you had people eating pig penises to land a date with Tila Tequila--what have you got left to prove about the wretchedness of the human condition?

Monday 7

“Art of Failure: Chuck Connelly Not For Sale” (HBO 10 p.m.) Along with Julian Schnabel and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Chuck Connelly was one of the rising stars of the ’80s art world. Some 20 years later, however, Schnabel and Basquiat are legends and Connelly is alienated from every collector and gallery owner he ever worked with. He was even the inspiration for the nasty artist played by Nick Nolte in Martin Scorsese’s segment of New York Stories. Today, Connelly sits on a stockpile of 3,000 paintings he refuses to sell. So what do you have to do to piss off snooty New Yorkers willing to spend millions of dollars on jars of urine? Find out in this probing documentary, six years in the making.

Tuesday 8

“Celebrity Family Feud” (KOB-4 7 p.m.) Remember last week when I declared this show a new work of genius? Tonight, further proof: I give you the cast of “The Office” versus the “American Gladiators.” Gee, I wonder who’ll come out on top of that match-up?

Wednesday 9

“Koppel: People’s Republic of Capitalism” (Discovery 8 p.m.) Ted Koppel leads us on an informed discussion of China’s role in the global economy. ... Me, I just like saying “Koppel.” Say it with me, it’s fun.

“Ghost Hunters International” (Sci-Fi 7 p.m.) The overseas ghost-hunting brigade returns for its summer season premiere. Tonight’s investigation: Larnach Castle in New Zealand. You see, America has haunted sanitariums, the rest of the world has haunted castles. Sanitariums are scarier. Castles are classier.

“Scare Tactics” (Sci-Fi 8 p.m.) Sci-Fi’s supernatural prank show returns with “30 Rock” funny dude Tracy Morgan as the host. Hard to tell what’s scarier: the makeup and gore-heavy pranks or Morgan.
