Thursday, Oct. 16, is the last night to catch the limited-release digital screening of Viz Pictures’ anime-to-live-action sequel Death Note II: The Last Note. It’s showing locally at Cottonwood Starport and Century Downtown starting at 7:30 p.m. Seating is limited, so grab your tickets right away by visiting fathomevents.com.

Working Class

Also Thursday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. the People Before Profit Film and Lecture Series presents 5 Factories, a documentary about the experiences of workers’ participation and control in five different factories in Venezuela. Screening takes place at the Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice (202 Harvard SE) beginning at 7 p.m.

Straight Outta Argentina

Need more to do on Thursday? Proxima Salida, an Argentine drama about workers struggling to adjust after the sudden closure of a railroad, will be presented by director Nicolás Tuozzo as part of the third annual Cine en Construcción film series at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. The film is in Spanish with English subtitles and will be followed by a Q&A. The event starts at 7 p.m. and is free to the public. nhccnm.org.

Foodie Film

Thursday’s not over yet! The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center and the National Hispanic Cultural Center’s From Field to Feast, a Native American and Hispanic community celebration, continues this week with free film screenings on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 16 and 17, at the NHCC’s Bank of America Theatre. Screenings of Super Size Me and The Future of Food start at 6:30 p.m.

Musical Movies

Moving on to the weekend, Downtown’s El Rey Theater is launching its new monthly Music and Movie series with a pair of screenings. On Friday, Oct. 17, it’s the modern rock opera Hedwig and the Angry Inch paired with live performances by metal bands The Ground Beneath, Winterlock and Left Brain. On Saturday, it’s the Grateful Dead documentary Festival Express followed by jam band guests Liquid Gypsy, The Hammocks and Civitas. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. both nights. Experimental Sunday

Rounding it all out on Sunday, Oct. 19, Basement Films welcomes the Albuquerque premiere of 1, 2, 3, Whiteout—aka The End of the Light Age, an experimental sci-fi, lo-fi tone poem feature film—with director James June Schneider in person. Schneider is a prolific creator of video and film pieces. You can visit jamesjune.info for a full catalogue of his work. The director-led screening takes place at The Agency (111 Fourth Street SW) beginning at 8:15 p.m. Admission is $6 and all-ages.
