Improve Your Improv
If you’re an actor looking to improve your audition techniques or a writer wanting to exercise your TV and film skills, there will be a three-hour improv class for actors and writers this Thursday, June 4, at 6:30 p.m. The class will be led by writer / filmmaker / multimedia artist Lee Stranahan, who has worked with the likes of Matthew Perry and Wayne Brady. The Fat Man Wins
Fat Man Media, a New Mexico-based film production company, just received three Accolade Film Awards for its short film “On the Bus.” The Accolade is an international “virtual” awards competition for filmmakers who produce “fresh, standout entertainment, animation and documentaries.” The 14-minute, Albuquerque-lensed “On the Bus” received an Award of Excellence for the film’s lead actor Mark Schrier and two Awards of Merit: one for director Willie Ford and another for film editor Clark Morris. The film previously received five Indie Awards from the Indie Distribution Fest, an independent film festival based in La Jolla, Calif. Continued congratulations, Fat Man. South of the Border Shorts
Starting this Thursday, June 4, Instituto Cervantes at the National Hispanic Cultural Center is joining forces with the Mexican Consulate to present the best in Mexican short films courtesy of the Expresión en Corto International Film Festival. Held in the Mexican city of San Miguel de Allende ever year, Expresión en Corto screens fiction, experimental, animated and documentary films. Each year’s chosen winners go on an international tour. This Thursday, beginning at 7 p.m., you can see the best in Mexican short film from 2007. Next Thursday, June 11, it’ll be the best of 2008. Both screenings are free, open to the public and take place in the NHCC’s Bank of America Theatre (1701 Fourth Street SW).
