A Flick Called Flicker
This Friday and Saturday night, Guild Cinema in Nob Hill will host the premiere of Flicker, a locally shot horror feature. The film is the work of writer-director Aaron Hendren, the man behind 2006’s The Faithful and the Foul. It stars a number of noted Albuquerque actors including Courtney Bell, Katy Houska, Kevin R. Elder, Julibeth Hendren, Abigail Blueher, Alex Knight, Kate Schroeder and Jason Witter. The story concerns a group of young people who encounter a host of crazed killers and creepy locals while on a camping trip. On Friday, Sept. 4, the cast and crew will be there for opening night, so show up and give them your support for a job well done. The state is opening up applications for another round of New Visions/New Mexico contract awards. The New Mexico Filmmakers Program at the New Mexico Film Office is looking to give out a total of $160,000 (up to $20,000 per project) to local filmmakers to help fund their original narrative, documentary, animation and experimental film projects. The program is open to all filmmakers in the state, and awards can be used toward the completion of existing projects or the development of new ones. In exchange for funding, applicants are required to provide a service to the state as part of their contract, such as training other New Mexicans in the industry or providing mentorships, public screenings or lectures free of charge to state residents. The deadline for proposals is Oct. 16. Recipients will be announced in late November. To download an application, log on to nmfilm.com.

Programmers are looking for narratives, documentaries and animations, feature- or short-length. For submission information, create a filmmaker account on withoutabox.com, or log on to the SFFF website at santafefilmfestival.com.
