Three Months Until 48 Hours

Registration has opened for the Albuquerque leg of the 48 Hour Film Project. In this annual filmmaking challenge, teams of eager moviemakers are given a few touchstones (a genre, a prop, a line of dialogue, a character) and have just 48 hours to write, shoot, edit and premiere their short films. Albuquerque has had fantastic participation in years past, and several local films have gone on to national and international glory. If you’re interested in getting a crew together and making a run at it, log on to 48hourfilm.com/albuquerque. Screenings of the finished films will take place July 15, 16 and 18 at the KiMo Theatre.

Eat Brains, Have Ball

Local independent video store Burning Paradise is celebrating its seventh anniversary, and you’re invited to the party. On Friday, May 7, starting at 9 p.m., Burning Paradise will host a full-on Zombie Ball at Burt’s Tiki Lounge (313 Gold SW). Zombie attire is, of course, highly encouraged for this sort of thing. Bands include Dead On Point Five, Jay Walker and the Pedestrians, Sabertooth Cavity, and Caustic Lye. It’s free to get in, which leaves you plenty of money to spend on booze! This is a 21+ party. Sorry, underage zombies.

Producers Needed

The newly revived Duke City Shootout is looking for producers to steward its short (12-minute) films and newly added music videos to completion. Producing and/or production management experience is a plus. Producers will participate in the final round of script/video treatment judging (taking place in mid-to-late May). Preproduction will begin as soon as the winners have been selected and have signed their contracts. The 10th annual script-to-screen festival is scheduled to take place July 23 through 31. SGLFF Needs Warm Bodies

The Southwest Gay & Lesbian Film Festival is gearing up for its eighth annual outing, taking place this Oct. 8 through 14. Organizers are seeking a new design team to handle poster design, program layout, marketing materials and creation of the festival website. If you’ve got the sort of skills they’re looking for, contact them right away at info@closetcinema.org. Be sure to include your interests, qualifications and a few samples of your work. Also, the festival needs volunteers to help out with this year’s screening committee. That’s right, you get to watch a bunch of submissions and help decide what goes into the 2010 festival!
