The Fans of Film Festival for Social and Environmental Change starts this Sunday, Nov. 7. From 1 to 6 p.m., the Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice (202 Harvard SE) will become ground zero for a collection of films aimed and changing the way you think about life on this planet. (Or so the organizers hope.) Features include the carbon footprint comedy Local Warming, the free speech documentary Speakers’ Corner: You Have the Right to Remain Vocal and the immigration drama Anchor Baby. In addition to the features, a number of shorts will also be screened. A suggested donation of $7 gets you in the door. For a complete rundown of events, log on to fansoffilmfest.com.
The New Mexico Film Office and the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce will hold a free forum on business opportunities in the film industry on Tuesday, Nov. 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (1701 Fourth Street SW). Government representatives will be there, alongside folks from the local film technicians union. The goal is to talk about the needs of film production companies and explore possible business opportunities for New Mexicans. Those involved will explain how the industry utilizes vendors and will provide examples of locals who have adapted their businesses or created new endeavors to meet the needs of production companies. The event is free, but seating is limited. To RSVP, contact Minerva Jurado at email@example.com or 842-9003 ext. 121.
