Rick Reichman will conduct another one of his patented free screenwriting workshops on Thursday, April 12. The event will take place from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at Bookworks (4022 Rio Grande NW). Participants will get a crash course in how to script gripping film scenes. Reichman is the author of 20 Things You Must Know to Write a Great Screenplay and Formatting Your Screenplay. The Bard Unbarred
Shakespeare Behind Bars, a documentary following the yearlong rehearsal and presentation of The Tempest by inmates at a Kentucky prison, will be presented as part of the Reel New Mexico series at La Tienda Center in Eldorado, just outside of Santa Fe. The film is produced by Jillian Spitzmiller and written and directed by Hank Rogerson, both City Different residents. It was a Sundance Film Festival official selection and has claimed awards at several additional film festivals. The free screening will take place Thursday, April 12, at 7 p.m.

The 13th annual Santa Fe Film Festival doesn’t get underway until Dec. 6. But this Friday, April 13, is the early-bird deadline for submissions. If you’re a filmmaker interested in getting your narrative feature, documentary feature or short into this year’s festival, you might want get in while the getting’s good. The sooner you submit, the lower the entry fee. Right now, features will run you $50 and shorts will set you back $40. Regular deadline is May 11, late deadline is July 13. However, this year’s festival will feature a Spotlight on New Mexico Filmmakers program section, meaning N.M. filmmakers get a special discount throughout the submission process: a mere $45 for features and $35 for shorts. All entries must be submitted through Without a Box.

This Saturday, April 14, Cinema at the KiMo will present a special double feature of Coen brothers films. At 6 p.m., it’s the blackly comic 1996 crime flick Fargo. At 8 p.m., it’s the existential, bowling-based 1998 feature The Big Lebowski. Ten bucks gets you in the door for both.

Friends of Film, Video and Arts are bringing back Angie Beauchamp of Lightning Web Marketing for a special presentation on “Social Media & Marketing.” In this one-hour presentation, Beauchamp will go into greater detail about how to build a social network and to use that to your marketing advantage when conducting a crowd-funding campaign on sites such as Kickstarter or Indiegogo. The event will take place starting at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, at uPublic Studios (912 Third Street NW). The event is free to FoFVA members or $10 at the door for nonmembers.
