Week in Sloth
The Week in Sloth
“Quadrophenia—Can You See The Real Me?” (BBC America 7 p.m.) Archival interviews with band members and studio employees document the creation of The Who’s influential sixth album.
“American Chainsaw” (National Geographic 8 p.m.) I can think of five careers right off the top of my head that seem like more deserving recipients of the reality series treatment than “chainsaw carver.” Lion tamer, astronaut, monster truck driver, Hollywood stuntman, international superspy. Coincidentally, those were also my top five career choices at age 6. At no point did I dream of carving wooden bears with a chainsaw for a living. Food for thought, NG.
“Haunted Encounters” (Biography 8 p.m.) Nope. Sorry. I know it’s the holiday season and all, but I’m going to have to call for another of my patented Hollywood fatwas: Death to the cable television executive who green-lights another freaking ghost hunter show!
“CeeLo’s Magic Moment” (TV Guide 9 p.m.) CeeLo Green sings with the Muppets. If you get confused, just remember CeeLo’s the fluffy puppet with the really stubby arms.
It’s a Wonderful Life (KOB-4 7 p.m.) OK, fine, NBC. At least you waited until Dec. 1.
“2012: Countdown to Armageddon—The End is Near” (National Geographic 6 p.m.) Damn. Where’s Dick Clark when you really need him?
The Christmas Heart (Hallmark 6 p.m.) Teri Polo.
Finding Mrs. Claus (Lifetime 7 p.m.) Mira Sorvino. And with that, this week’s battle of the Christmas-themed, made-for-TV rom-coms goes to Lifetime.
“Be The Boss” (A&E 8 p.m.) I’m going to defer to the network’s description on this one: “A former beauty-pageant queen competes with a singing Marine for the keys to his or her very own nutritional supplement store.” ... Nope, no help at all. My mind still refuses to comprehend the words.
“Miss You Much” (VH1 8 p.m.) VH1’s new documentary series catches up with pop culture figures from the ’80s and ’90s—like singer Aaron Carter, sitcom actor Alan Thicke and rap star Coolio. It’s like “Where Are They Now?” only ... No, wait. It’s pretty much “Where Are They Now?”
“Blake Shelton’s Not So Family Christmas” (KOB-4 9 p.m.) What is the countrified judge from “The Voice” trying to imply with that title? Not sure, myself. In any case, Miranda Lambert will be there. (She has to be, she’s married to the guy.) Reba McEntire, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Jay Leno and Larry the Cable Guy all drop by as well. Yup. Sounds like a holiday special all right.
“The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show” (KRQE-13 9 p.m.) Now with 10 percent less racial insensitivity. But just as much cleavage.
“The Grammy Nominations Concert Live! Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night” (KRQE-13 9 p.m.) Not the Grammys, mind you, but the Grammy nominations. LL Cool J and Taylor Swift host. Ne-Yo and Maroon 5 perform. Bummer. They’re just one Larry the Cable Guy short of a holiday special.
