Now, Forager

Film and Fungi

The 13th annual Santa Fe Film Festival officially runs Dec. 6-9. But organizers are firing up the projectors a night early this year for a special “Festival Eve” presentation. On Wednesday, Dec. 5, cineastes and foodies are invited to a “delicious pairing of film and fungi.” Starting at 5 p.m., they’ll be screening the charming indie drama Now, Forager: A Film About Love and Fungi at the New Mexico History Museum (113 Lincoln). The film follows a couple of wild mushroom foragers whose itinerant lifestyle selling product to New York “slow food” restaurants is causing their marriage to crumble. The film’s writer-director-star, Jason Cortlund, will be on hand for a Q&A. After the film, viewers are invited by Coyote Café chef Eric DiStefano to a three-course tasting menu inspired by the film. The tasting will be at Coyote Café (132 Water Street) starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to the screening and Q&A are $20. Tickets to the screening and food tasting will set you back $135.

Trademark Your Calendar

Friends of Film, Video and Arts is sponsoring a talk on “Trademark Law” on Wednesday, Dec. 5. Gina Constant, a registered patent attorney and an associate in the Albuquerque office of the Rodey Law firm, will be on hand to talk about and answer questions regarding patent, copyright and trademark law. This talk will take place at the uPublic offices (519 Central NE) starting at 8 p.m. Admission is free for FoFVA members or $10 for nonmembers.
