Week in Sloth
“King of the Nerds” (TBS 8 p.m.) Tonight, the King of Nerds is crowned. It will be nice to know who we’re supposed to bow down to before San Diego Comic-Con arrives.
“LA Frock Stars” (Smithsonian 6 p.m.) A TV channel based on the world’s largest and most prestigious museum and research institute airs a docu-reality show about an LA boutique that sells vintage dresses to hipsters. Just like Bravo’s “The Dukes of Melrose.” Only more embarrassing, because it’s not on Bravo.
“Fashion Star” (KOB-4 7 p.m.) Season 2 of NBC’s cheap Chinese knockoff of “Project Runway” gets unraveled.
“Gold Rush Ghost Ships: Revealed” (National Geographic 7 p.m.) Ghost Ships of the Gold Rush? This sounds like a job for Scooby-Doo.
Flying Monkeys (Syfy 7 p.m.) This cheap monster flick has nothing to do with L. Frank Baum’s Oz books, or the just-released Disney flick Oz the Great and Powerful. In fact, it was originally called Winged Terror. But kudos on the awesome new title, Syfy.
“Amish Outcasts” (Destination America 6 p.m.) Apparently there’s a law in Hollywood now saying any new show on TV must be an exact copy of a previously aired show with a slightly different name. So here’s another docu-reality show about them wacky Amish.
“Magic Outlaws” (Travel 7 p.m.) Three magicians road trip across the U.S. looking for good food, great sights and gullible people impressed by disappearing coins.
Hindenberg: The Last Flight (Encore 6 p.m.) I sure hope this ends on a better note than that Titanic mini-series. What a bummer.
“Catfishin’ Kings” (Animal Planet 8 p.m.) Whew! What a relief. I was worried that Animal Planet, of all the stations on basic cable, was the only one to not have a redneck catfish noodling show. Now they do, and all is right with the world. Also: fully compliant with that new Hollywood law.
“Insect Autopsy” (Science 8 p.m.) My vote for the least compelling “CSI” spin off.
“Apocalypse 101” (National Geographic 8 p.m.) Ever wonder who’s behind all this doomsday prepper stuff? Meet the owners of Forge Survival Supply, four former marines who teach paranoid people how to survive various end-of-the-world scenarios.
“19 Kids and Counting: Duggars Do Asia” (TLC 7 p.m.) Way to send America’s most overly fertile super family to the most overpopulated part of the globe, TLC.
“Under Seige: America’s Northern Border” (Discovery 7 p.m.) I knew it! Those maple syrup-sucking, poutine-eating, toque-wearing Canadians are sneaking across the border just so they can pay for medical treatments. Somebody alert Glenn Beck.
